I began my working life in the hospitality industry, working for a promotion agency and supporting business opportunities through marketing. I have a management qualification which, although invaluable, didn’t allow me to work as therapeutically with individuals as I seemed to be drawn to.
In 1992 I trained as a community mediator, working for housing associations and the police, usually where breaches of tenancy required intervention. I went on to work for the local education authority seeking resolutions for schools or parents regarding their children’s entitlement to educational rights.
I am qualified as a psychodynamic counsellor and have extensive experience of working with those who are ‘life limited’ and their families. I prefer to utilise an individual’s creative side within my work and seek to acknowledge all aspects of someone’s pain, being particularly interested in honouring spiritual development and personal beliefs.
I have worked with all age groups, from pre-school children to the elderly and have over twenty years experience of providing social care support to those suffering from mental health problems. I am currently managing services which provide therapeutic and educational groups to those on the caseload of Cornwall Foundation NHS Trust.
My interest in the human mind and defence mechanisms alongside becoming familiar with the works of Milton Erickson inspired me and focused a new strand to my learning – contributing to the decision to train as a Hypnotherapist.
Hypnotherapy has brought an added dimension and value to my private practice.
